Successful progress in the OPTISOL (Alcufer VKE) project

Alcufer Ltd. is the largest waste management group in Hungary. Currently, 6,800 buses in Hungary are over 16 years old, most of which are waiting to be scrapped. There are currently no legal dismantling and recycling plants for buses and trucks.

Successful progress in the OPTISOL (Alcufer VKE) project Bay Zoltán Kutatóközpont

Since 2017, the SMART division of the Bay Zoltán Research Centre has been working on the SME project “Implementation of a research and development programme for the pre-treatment, dismantling, dismantling and recycling of commercial vehicles within the OPTISOL consortium”.

The overall aim of the project is to achieve almost 100% recycling of public and private commercial vehicles, mainly buses. Our research centre has so far been responsible for assessing the composition of the Hungarian commercial vehicle fleet, selecting the most common types and developing an optimal collection system for buses that are being withdrawn.

The project reached a new stage in 2019, with the dismantling of the buses successfully started at the newly built bus dismantling plant in Szolnok. Alcufer Ltd has built two 1000m2 halls for this purpose, which contain all the necessary infrastructure for dismantling and dismantling the buses. Under the guidance of BZN and the University of Miskolc, the dismantling process will involve the precise identification and separation of the main components and their material components.

Following the dismantling trials, Bay’s colleagues will develop the optimal dismantling and internal logistics technology that will deliver the best results for the dismantling company in terms of environmental sustainability and economic efficiency.
