TRANSMIT – Semi-transparent micro-stripped thin-film photovoltaics for energy-harvesting windows

The 7-member consortium, coordinated by the International Iberian Nanotechnology Laboratory, aims to develop a translucent solar cell that converts part of the incident light into electrical energy by means of microwaves that are invisible to the human eye. This will make it possible to use external building windows and other glass surfaces for energy supply, which have not been used in this field until now, while retaining their previous function. The development will be implemented using two different PV technologies: (i) thin film Cu(In,Ga)Se2 (CIGS) SCs with proven stability and performance, and (ii) hybrid perovskites with exceptional performance.

If successful, the renewable energy potential of buildings could be increased dramatically, thus increasing the chances of meeting EU targets for CO2 emissions and fossil energy independence.

The project 2023-1.2.2-HE_PARTNERSHIP-2023-00002 is funded by the CET Partnership 2022 Joint Call for Proposals for Research, co-funded by the European Commission (GA N°101069750) and supported by the Ministry of Culture and Innovation through the National Research Development and Innovation Fund, under the 2023-1.2.2- HE_PARTNERSHIP call for proposals.
