A SciShops.eu project aims to expand and further develop the European science shop ecosystem. The idea behind science shops is to create platforms where researchers and civil society can meet and work together to solve a scientific problem.
Through the SciShops project, project partners will establish at least ten new university and non-university science shops in Europe. The non-university units will be affiliated to different organisations such as SMEs, larger companies, NGOs, non-profit organisations and research institutions will be linked to.
Through the project’s web interface, organisations that are ready to set up a science shop can find research organisations that can support them with research services, or twin up with an experienced, similar science shop to help set up and develop the new organisation.
One of the main objectives of the SciShops consortium is to demonstrate the benefits to all types of institutions of starting a science shop and the benefits to society of community-based participatory research resulting from collaboration with science shops. Participatory knowledge transfer and learning events organised throughout the project will raise awareness of this mutually beneficial concept.
