Bay Zoltán Applied Research Nonprofit Ltd. is a partner in the Robotics and AI for Sewer Inspection & Maintenance (PIPEON) project.
PIPEON is an innovative and ambitious international project to develop autonomous, artificial intelligence-driven robots and advanced analytical technologies for mapping, monitoring and maintaining European sewer networks.
The main objectives of the project are:
- Creating autonomous robots that can perform a variety of non-repetitive tasks in an extremely harsh underground environment.
- Developing rigid, yet flexible robotic systems that are resistant to corrosive and abrasive environments and operate efficiently in both dry and underwater conditions.
- Developing new solutions for robotic manipulators that can remove blockages in closed pipelines, handle obstacles with variable properties and install sensors in hard-to-reach places.
- Development of complex yet low-computational-demand sensor systems and machine learning algorithms.
- Develop risk-aware mapping and planning methods that quantify uncertainties.
- Creating digital twin technology that allows proactive modelling of the status and performance of the sewer system.
- Demonstrate and prove that a paradigm shift in sewer management from reactive to proactive maintenance is possible and effective.
- A detailed impact assessment to evaluate the economic, environmental, health and employment impacts of the technology.
Duration of the project: 2025.01.01. – 2029.01.31.
