Engage4BIO project Bay Zoltán Kutatóközpont

Bay Zoltán Applied Research Nonprofit Ltd. is participating in the project “Better understanding, intensified engagement, training and development in regional bio-based systems” (Engage4BIO).

The idea behind the project was that the circular economy is still in its infancy in many European regions, and that it is therefore worthwhile to use innovative methods to involve actors more effectively in the process. The aim of the project is to strengthen the concept of a circular, sustainable biomass-based economy and sustainable rural development by involving the actors of the quadruple helix through design-based thinking, co-creation, training and capacity building. The basic project concept takes into account differences between regions and regional specificities such as biomass feedstock availability, technology levels and social capital. Taking these into account, the partners will create 5 different “hubs”. The project activities will be implemented in these hubs, which will be created centrally by the partners but adapted to the needs of each region. The regional biomass-based systems will focus on five different value chains specific to the regions, namely circular and biomass-based textiles (NL), agriculture and agri-food (HU), wood and interior design (AT), biomass-based and sustainable packaging (FI) and the marine-related blue bioeconomy (IT).

Bay Zoltán Applied Research Nonprofit Ltd. represents the South Great Plain Region, where one of the project’s hubs, the hub focusing on agriculture and agri-food industry, will be implemented. The hub will be established and operated in close cooperation with the other Hungarian partner of the project, the Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design.

Duration of the project: 2022.10.01. – 2025.09.30.
