A BIOFLEX Flexible Biometallurgy Infrastructure and Expertise network project aims to create an infrastructure network covering biometallurgical competences. The infrastructure network will provide services in the fields of bioleaching, bioprecipitation, biosorption and bioelectrochemistry for owners of raw material waste storage facilities, mines and metal extraction plants. These studies and experimental methods can be used to recover critical raw materials, which can make a major contribution to reducing the EU’s dependence on raw materials. On behalf of BZN, BAY BIO is involved in the project with its model system combining laboratory and pilot-scale microbial activity with molecular biology studies, which is already under development, and which also allows DNA-based microbial community studies. BAY ENG is involved in the project with its materials testing competences.
The project is supported by EIT KIC Raw Materials and will run from January 2016 to December 2018
The partner countries are Belgium, Germany, Hungary, Finland, France, Sweden and Hungary
The Hungarian partner of the project is the Bay Zoltán Research Institute
