APAL – Advanced PTS Analysis for long-term operation
Together with European and international partners, a process is being further developed to improve the safety of nuclear power plants by identifying plant hardware, software and processes that affect the thermal shock under pressure (PTS) in reactor pressure vessels.
The APAL project aims to improve safety assessment methods for nuclear power plants with the aim of improving their reliability across Europe. In particular, APAL will develop an advanced probabilistic and deterministic Pressurised Thermal Shock (PTS) assessment methodology, quantify the safety margins required to improve Long Term Operation (LTO) and develop best practice guidelines.
The project is supported by the European Union’s Horizon 2020 EURATOM programme.
Period of implementation: 01.10.2020 – 30.09.2024.
Partners:
A significant number of the 14 consortium partners are public institutions and research institutes with an interest in nuclear energy. In addition to EU Member States, Switzerland and Ukraine are also represented.
