The University of Pannonia and its consortium partners have won a HUF 4.775 billion non-refundable grant from the National Research, Development and Innovation Office to establish the “Sustainability based on circular economy” competence centre in Veszprém and Nagykanizsa in the next three years.

The preparation of the Tender Project was preceded by more than six months of joint work, mainly with the University and the strategic partner of the Tender Project, MOL Plc, until the professional implementation could start on 1 March 2020. In terms of its values, competences and opportunities, the University of Pannonia will define itself as a university of sustainability in the future. This offers a unique opportunity for the University and its partners, as well as for Veszprém and Nagykanizsa, the sites of implementation, to become the leading R&D and innovation force in the country, and to join the international innovation and R&D blood circulation in the fields of environmental protection, sustainability, responsible management of raw materials and mineral resources, which are the key to the future. The call for proposals identified five main pillars: sustainable energy production, waste recycling, water technologies, and the development of future cities and the greening of tourism, all of which are key sustainability issues for the future.

The partners cooperating in the implementation are MOL Plc, Hidrofilt Ltd., Netta Pannónia Ltd., Bay Zoltán Applied Research Nonprofit Ltd, Our main goal is to build a high-level research and development infrastructure and knowledge base by establishing a competitive R&D and innovation development team, which is able to put the country on the international innovation map by leading the sustainability developments based on the circular economy.

A further priority of our Call for Proposals is the establishment of a Centre of Competence for Sustainability in the Circular Economy at the University of Pannonia, which will provide effective support for the integration of circular economy requirements into future R&D, innovation and educational activities.
