HUNGARIAN SMES CAN BENEFIT FROM HUF 1.5 BILLION IN INNOVATION SERVICES FROM THE BAY RESEARCH CENTRE
Budapest, 15 April 2025 – Hungarian micro, small and medium-sized enterprises can implement their research, development and innovation ideas with funding from the NRDI Fund under the Renewable Bay Voucher Programme. With its expertise, research capacity and infrastructure, the Bay Zoltán Research Centre will support Hungarian SMEs to develop and bring to market new products, services and technological solutions. Innovation services will be available in the form of vouchers from 15 April 2025. The total budget of the scheme is HUF 1.5 billion, and a company can benefit from up to HUF 100 million worth of RDI services.
Participating SMEs can benefit from RDI services, prototyping, tool and pilot development from the Bay Research Centre, up to a maximum of HUF 100 million per enterprise. A maximum of 25% own contribution is required for the development. The programme could be particularly beneficial for companies planning to develop, test or market new technological solutions.
László Bódis, Deputy State Secretary for Innovation and CEO of the NIÜ, highlighted the launch of the programme:
“The relaunched Bay Voucher Programme fits well into the domestic innovation funding system. Our strategic goal is to have half of Hungarian SMEs innovating by 2030, compared to the current one third. Research shows that this has a positive impact on society and the economy as a whole: innovative firms are 58% more efficient, employ 2.5 times more workers and offer on average 31% higher wages than non-innovating firms. In addition to the Bay Voucher, the National Innovation Agency is launching its Innovation Voucher Programme, which aims to provide startups and SMEs with targeted mentoring and expertise in business development and technology.”

Dr Balázs Schmidt, Managing Director of the Bay Zoltán Research Centre, stressed:
“Too many valuable ideas and innovative business concepts remain unrealised – not because of a lack of talent or market demand, but because the ideas do not have access to the necessary professional, technological or financial resources. The mission of the Bay Zoltán Research Centre is to unlock these hidden opportunities and bridge the gap between idea and market.”
Dr Ádám Vida, R&D Director of the Bay Zoltán Research Centre, added:
“We are convinced that access to knowledge, advanced tools and advanced infrastructure – which domestic SMEs typically have little or no access to on a market basis – is key to strengthening the innovation ecosystem. The value of the programme is further enhanced by the networking that results from the professional collaborations that it generates, a key feature of advanced innovation ecosystems.”
