Installation of a five-axis laser material processing machine

A diode laser beam source device for laser beam material processing has started its operation at the Neumann János University in Kecskemét. This is a major step forward for our project, as the last piece of equipment that will play a key role in the upgrading of the Diode Laser Centre has been purchased.

The equipment was supplied by TRUMPF GmbH, one of the world’s leading industrial laser manufacturers. The material processing is supported by five-axis mechanics and an optical fibre guided laser beam. The diode laser beam source has a power of 3000 W and the laser beam quality is excellent at 5 mm*mrad. The optical fibre is 30 m long and 100 µm in diameter and can be connected to a cutting head or welding head.

The main features of five-axis CNC mechanics:

  • range of movement: X = 2000 mm, Y = 1500 mm, Z = 750 mm, B = ±135°, C = n * 360°
  • Control: Siemens 840D PowerLine

The equipment is mainly suitable for cutting and welding metals, but can also be used for laser metal printing (Laser Melt Deposition).
