Presentation of the project content:

The European eCall system aims to reduce the number of fatal and serious injury accidents. 2018. From 1 April 2011, vehicles may only be newly registered with this function. According to the Hungarian Central Statistical Office, the current average age of Hungary’s passenger car fleet, which is in the order of 3 million cars, is 11.6 years. Although the eCall system will be mandatory in new vehicles from 2018, there will be a significant number of second-hand cars without eCall in the factory for another 10-15 years.

The aim of the project is to develop a retrofit eCall on-board device and service for vehicles that are not fitted with it at the factory. In the event of an accident or incident, the on-board device will send automatically or manually signals via a standard communication channel to the central system through a data communication interface to be developed in the course of this project.

R&D, which is the core of the project, will focus on the following main areas

  • electronics and IT equipment,
  • firmware close to hardware,
  • and development of high-level software applications.

The project was supported by the Hungarian State and co-financed by the European Union.
