The aim of the project is to develop a modular technology for the stripping treatment of liquids with high ammonia nitrogen content and high suspended solids content (biogas fermentation juice). By reducing the ammonia content, this will help to address the storage problems of fermented digestate in biogas plants, which will result in cost savings for the plants.
The project involves the development of a new stripping column and its integration into a modular biogas digestate treatment system. The modular solution will significantly reduce the design and licensing costs for the application of the technology at plant level, thus enabling its uptake in the domestic and international markets.
The technology developed can be used primarily to reduce ammonia nitrogen content in biogas plant digestate, but can also be extended to other areas with similar problems, such as wastewater treatment. The overall objective of the project to develop this new technology, which has significant technical novelty content, is to improve the competitiveness of domestic biogas plants at the national economic level and to reduce the environmental impact of biogas plants. A consortium of eminent players has been assembled to carry out the major and complex R&D and innovation tasks over a 24-month period.
Voltrack Energy Ltd. is a player in the Hungarian biogas sector, which understands the market needs and tries to solve the most pressing problems by developing R&D ideas, resulting in technologies and services that can be sold to other market players.
Bay Zoltán Nonprofit Ltd. is a key player in the Hungarian R&D ecosystem, which not only contributes to the successful implementation of the project with its professional knowledge, but also with its experience in the operational implementation of R&D projects.
The consortium intends to market the developed technology on the domestic and international markets on the basis of a business plan.
The project 2024-1.1.1-KKV_FÓKUSZ-2024-00005 was funded by the National Research Development and Innovation Fund under the 2024-1.1.1-KKV_FÓKUSZ call for proposals.
