Hydrogen compatibility tests

Hydrogen compatibility tests Bay Zoltán Kutatóközpont

One of the newest and most promising research areas of the Bay Zoltán Research Institute is the investigation of hydrogen-related materials, with a special focus on hydrogen damage and hydrogen compatibility.

Hydrogen, as a clean and sustainable energy carrier, has a key role to play in the future energy mix – but it poses particular challenges for the materials industries that work with it.

Our research investigates the microstructural, mechanical and chemical properties of materials in terms of their interaction with hydrogen. The aim is to map hydrogen-induced phenomena such as brittleness, crack initiation and diffusion processes, and thus provide reliable data for appropriate material selection and design decisions.

We offer our services to industries where hydrogen is already or could become a strategic asset: the gas industry, the automotive industry (in particular the development of hydrogen-powered vehicles), and the commercial and energy sectors. Our testing activities include not only laboratory measurements but also materials science modelling and expert advice.

The Bay Zoltán Research Institute is committed to providing its partners with state-of-the-art science and industrial applicability for the safe and efficient deployment of hydrogen technologies.
